We celebrated our fifth grade with an ice cream party. There were lots of sticky fingers and happy smiles.
We look forward to seeing their accomplishments at East Granby Middle School.

On Saturday, May 30, The Invention Convention State Finals Awards ceremony was held at UCONN, and Seymour School's Wes Hess was awarded the Starlight Excellence in Construction Award. This award is sponsored by Starlight Construction of Bridgeport, CT.
Wes, a fifth grader, was recognized for his Invention "Slip Stop" which provides an eco-friendly option for increasing grip for footwear in wet or icy conditions. Wes combined acetone and pine rosin to create a substance to be applied to the bottom of shoes in slippery conditions. Wes has plans to extend this idea to the automotive safety category by developing a tire spray to be used in slippery or icy driving conditions. He still recommends driving slowly and with caution, but hopes his invention will add safety to travel.
Wes competed at the State Finals in early May, and was invited to be honored at the Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts on May 30. At this event, the top one percent of student inventors in CT were honored and celebrated. Inventors ranged from kindergarten age to high school seniors., and inventions addressed a variety of household, medical, safety and environmental issues.
Some of the speakers included Jordan Conover, founder of Hartford Fence Company, Paul Lovoie, Vice President of Innovation and Applied Technology at the University of New Haven , and Jonna Gerken, Project Engineering Fellow, Pratt & Whitney. There were themes of innovation, a call to action and encouragement to seek answers to the world's problems.
Congratulations to Wes Hess and his excellent efforts to put East Granby on the innovation map!

From Mr. Esposito's class: Boxitects was a fun STEM related activity that allowed students to express their creativity and problem solving skills. They used recyclable materials to create different types of games. The students really enjoyed getting to think outside of the box and construct something that their classmates got to play.

Seymour School rehearsed this morning for their school concert on May 20, 2026. Don't forget- all school drop offs will be at EGHS on May 20. We will have a rehearsal in the auditorium and then take buses to Seymour.
